India’s Youth paddling away from Indian Television.

I still remember those days when excitement level for Sunday afternoon was way too much, for then most popular program Shaktimaan. It is something every late 90s and early 21st century youth could relate too. We didn’t even know that Mukesh Khanna was playing that role. Only thing we knew that he was the superhero who used to fight with the bad guys Dr Jaikal and Tamraj Kilvish to make the city a better place.
But things have changed, Cable TV and Internet has changed the content youth watches today. Indian television don’t even have youth in their target audience as their most programs are targeted at women only. Like me there are many youth who are into YouTube, Netflix and abroad TV series only, they don’t even know the names of programs aired on Indian  Television. English TV Shows like Game Of Thrones, Suits, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Stranger Things, Narcos, Sherlock, The Flash, Dexter, Breaking Bad etc  are insanely popular in youth of our country.
What is the reason we are headed  that way? Simply because the way see content has changed and their content intrests us more. Indian daily soaps content get only one thing from youth i.e criticism. However Channels like MTV and Channel V are trying to make a difference but their content lacks in something which indian youngsters are lookling  for. Easy access of english tv series and english movies through torrent and various other websites and mobile application with the help of fast internet speed has paved the way for indian audience.
Youth going away from Indian Television is a serious concern for the broadcasting industry. If it is not a serious concern now, it will become in coming years. We need to produce some quality content keeping youth in mind to bring back the audience and bring those old good days when youth were excited to watch a tv program.

Democracy allows protest, not violence and death with it.

We have seen many popular protests in India. Some were democratic and some were non-violent and undemocratic. Famous Anna Hazare’s agitation for Lokpal Bill in country’s Capital was non-violent and very cooperative. Jat Agitation in country was violent and the government lost crores. And then there were people who went mad over arresting of Ram Rahim Baba. Here also we lost capitals. Before few days farmers were protesting in Maharashtra which was very silent and non-violent. Protests and agitations makes democracy beautiful but on the name of them if you are involved in killing of people how could you justify it. Great Mahatma Gandhi had many shades, his best one was non-violence. However, some people think that there were instances where he should have gone against it. The country lost millions of Capital with the Bharat Bandh today when people were on road protesting against the decision of supreme court in making changes in SC\ST act. Disagreeing with the decision and marchi...

Chapter 2, We played Cricket on mountains

In chapter 1, I opened about how I got into this mass communication. In this chapter I will tell you about the experiences of field. When I was done with graduation, I was looking for a job. Even though I wanted it to be related to journalism but I didn’t get one. There were people back from hometown telling me to find one and utilise my time.   My brother had a friend, who got me hooked with my first job as a content writer which didn’t last more than 20 days. Neither I enjoyed working there nor they paid enough for me to stay. Once, when I was working there I got a call from someone whom I knew from my previous internship asking me to work for a   web portal in Himachal Pradesh. I was more than happy to take that offer into consideration and after talking to my parents I finally decided to take that. That’s how I reached Himachal Pradesh probably one of the beautiful places I have ever been and found myself a dream job. It was really awesome roaming between mountain...
