Why "BIHARI" a slang.

Which state is said to be most under developed state in india. The first answer which must have came in your mind is non other Bihar..  Isn't ?

Well,  since 2005 when nitish kumar became the cheif minister in bihar , The state has seen bit of positive change that is development either in infrastructure, education, low crime rates, agriculture or electricity. However Manufacturing is still a concern in bihar.  According to a report in 2011-12 bihar had the second most highest GDP,  that is 11.03 after gujrat which had 11.05. Somehow bihar has overcomed with the given status of "BIMADU" state.

Now the question is whether this change
will bring any effect to the lives of the people not only those living inside the state, but also those who live outside, popularly known as “Biharis”. As we all know the term “Bihari” is used as slang in some northern parts of India, mostly in Delhi, as a slang to address or demoralize a person, or to make him feel inferior.

It has been a long term mind-set of people that all Biharis are illiterate, corrupt, law breakers; they are the ones who have taken their jobs, their lands, their seats in colleges; they are menial workers or say present day “girmitya majdoor”. They do not know how to behave; they have no culture, no respect for others’ well being.

The biggest question that comes to my mind, very often, is that why is it so that the image of Bihar is painted darker than it actually is? May be the reason behind this is that there is no one to speak on the behalf of the community or no one to listen to what they want to say. Our politicians or the so called ‘servants of the people’ show their concern on various issues like the foreign policy of U.S and China, climate change, intolerance, and other political issues which they make for their own benefits. But how many of us have ever seen them talk about an issue of regionalism that exists in our own land? The problem that is being discussed in the offices of all the ministers today is the problem of Indians being ill treated in the foreign land, but no concern is being shown to the discrimination that is taking place within the country itself. The discrimination that is making these people feel alienated in their own country?

Irrespective of the fact that what a Bihari does, from a rickshaw puller to a technocrat, these people have equal contribution in the development of most of the states. These are amongst the people who helped in making roads, houses, metros, railways etc. so that we could develop.

Biharis are not just limited to menial works, as they are placed at almost every top-notch place from politics to cricket, to the civil services. They are doctors, engineers, managers, writers, artists, businesspersons, journalists and much more.

Nevertheless, irrespective of all these, the image of a “Bihari” remains the same.

Chapter 2, We played Cricket on mountains

In chapter 1, I opened about how I got into this mass communication. In this chapter I will tell you about the experiences of field. When I was done with graduation, I was looking for a job. Even though I wanted it to be related to journalism but I didn’t get one. There were people back from hometown telling me to find one and utilise my time.   My brother had a friend, who got me hooked with my first job as a content writer which didn’t last more than 20 days. Neither I enjoyed working there nor they paid enough for me to stay. Once, when I was working there I got a call from someone whom I knew from my previous internship asking me to work for a   web portal in Himachal Pradesh. I was more than happy to take that offer into consideration and after talking to my parents I finally decided to take that. That’s how I reached Himachal Pradesh probably one of the beautiful places I have ever been and found myself a dream job. It was really awesome roaming between mountain...

Democracy allows protest, not violence and death with it.

We have seen many popular protests in India. Some were democratic and some were non-violent and undemocratic. Famous Anna Hazare’s agitation for Lokpal Bill in country’s Capital was non-violent and very cooperative. Jat Agitation in country was violent and the government lost crores. And then there were people who went mad over arresting of Ram Rahim Baba. Here also we lost capitals. Before few days farmers were protesting in Maharashtra which was very silent and non-violent. Protests and agitations makes democracy beautiful but on the name of them if you are involved in killing of people how could you justify it. Great Mahatma Gandhi had many shades, his best one was non-violence. However, some people think that there were instances where he should have gone against it. The country lost millions of Capital with the Bharat Bandh today when people were on road protesting against the decision of supreme court in making changes in SC\ST act. Disagreeing with the decision and marchi...

Best thing about Navratra is "Bhandara" for Poor

.I have never been a fan of worshipping and praying to almighty God. I respect those people who follow them and pray for a better tomorrow but I never found the logic behind it. However there have certain times when I may have prayed, but that must have been at those times when life was most vulnerable for me or for my loved ones. And yes I have prayed once when I was batting while playing cricket too, like the great Sachin Tendulkar but this was  way before. I know I am going to be criticised for what I am writing today, may be I will be declared an atheist by people. People may start hating me or think I am goofy, foolish, witless and berk but it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t have give a damn about Ram Mandir will be made or not. The only thing I know that my diabetic mother stays on fast going against the doctor’s advice and get sick. I can’t even count how many times I would have told her that her first priority should be health. But we know what these Moms answer, they ...
